Manipur Police personnel mobbed for assaulting Tata Magic driver

IMPHAL, 30 April: Locals of Brahmapur Nahabam Leikai today mobbed a Manipur Police personnel for excessively assaulting a Tata magic driver near the new Thumbuthong.

According to a local, around 4:30 pm, the police constable identified as Md Abdulla having constable number 0915224 stationed at the New Thumbuthong stopped a Tata Magic passenger vehicle ferrying passengers from Porompat to Bazar and asked the driver to produce his papers.

When the driver failed to provide the papers, the constable demanded Rs 1000 to allow him to proceed, said the local.

He continued that when the driver denied giving him the amount, the police constable started beating the driver inhumanely and locals unable to bear the sight mobbed the constable.

Soon the personnel fled from the scene, he added.

Meanwhile, a local elder said police personnel on duty at the Brahmapur Nahabam side of the bridge have been creating traffic jams with unnecessary frisking of commuters. He also urged the concern authorities to check the highhandedness of the police personnel.
