NEDF seeks implementation of Manipur State Action Plan on climatic change

IMPHAL, April 27: The North Eastern region is the most vulnerable region to the crisis of climatic changes which will be felt in the coming 20 or so years, observed North East Dialogue Forum convener U Nobokishore during a press conference today.

The press conference was called at the Manipur Press Club.

Manipur has witnessed acute shortage of water for agricultural activities including rearing of fish and animals and difficulties in getting safe drinking water for the past five years.

He said regarding the issue, the Centre for Social Development had also submitted a memorandum on April 2 to the State chief secretary seeking initiative from the side of the government to implement the Manipur State Action Plan on Climatic Change and guide the NGOs and other civil organisations to spread awareness about the negative aspects of climate change.

However, there has been no response from the government so far which means the government is neglecting the issue, he observed.

He further urged the government to take implement the Manipur State Action Plan on Climate Change.
