Thunderstorm lashes houses, properties

IMPHAL, April 23: Around 30-long heavy thunderstorm that swept across the state yesterday late evening suddenly has devastated several residential houses in villages along Uripok-Kangchup Road apart from causing damage to properties in Imphal West areas.

According to Pradhan of Lairenkabi Kadangband Gram Panchayat, Nunglepam Bobi Singh, the thunderstorm damaged five houses at Phayeng, building of Don Bosco School Phayeng, three houses at Lamlongei and four houses at Lairenkabi Ward no 1.

Apart from several residential houses at Akham, Lamdeng, Laingamkhul, Taothong and Iroishemba, electric high and low transmission wires including posts were also shattered by the thunderstorm.

The impact of the thunderstorm was so powerful that roofing sheets covering residential quarters at Langol Game Village Zone I and II were blown away by the thunderstorm accompanied by heavy winds.

Meanwhile, families in Keishamthong Assembly Constituency which were damaged by the thunderstorm were inspected and provided financial assistance to mitigate the loss incurred.

The sudden thunderstorm that wreaked havoc also caused damage to several residential houses at Kwakta area in Bushnupur district. The heavy rainstorm blown away roofing sheets of the two-storey Unchi Wali Masjid at Kwakta Sevla which landed at the campus of Sevla Primary School around 100 feet from the masjid.

Supply of power current in the area was cut off after several electric posts were blown by the thunderstorm. Building of INA Memorial High School and residential properties at Kwakta Bazar and Ukha Tampak, Churachandpur were also shattered.
