70th Anniv of victory over fascism cum inauguration of Russian Film Fest on May 16

IMPHAL, May 11: In commemoration of the end of the World War II, the most destructive war ever fought in human history which killed more than 50 million people, the 70th Anniversary of Victory over Fascism and inauguration of a five-day Russian Film Festival will be held on May 16 at MFDC Auditorium, Palace Compound.

Informing this during a press meet at Manipur Press Club here today, organizing committee president Dr M Nara Singh said that the observance cum film festival is to be organized by All India Peace and Solidarity Organisation, Manipur State Council Imphal in collaboration with Manipur Film Development Society and Russian Centre for Science and Culture, Kolkata and in close cooperation from fraternal organizations including Indian Peoples Theatre Association; Progressive Writers Association, and Indian Society for Cultural Cooperation and Friendship.

He further informed that a team of officials of the Russian Centre for Science and Culture, Kolkata and representatives of four Russian Universities led by Bashkirova, Consul General of Russian Federation in Kolkata are arriving Imphal on May 15 to take part in the function.

The Russian Film Festival will continue till May 20 at three places including MFDC, Imphal; INA Memorial Hall, Moirang; and Public Library Auditorium, Kakching, he continued.

He also said that on the sideline of the occasion, a Russian Education-Fare is also being organized at Classic Grand Hotel, Chingmeirong Khongnang Karak from May 15 to 16 for the benefit of students who aspire to go for higher studies in Russia.

The representative of four internationally well-known Universities of Russia will be displaying their exhibits and guiding interested students for admission in different courses, he added.

Maintaining that will be screening of rare antiwar films for five days and also a painting competition on the theme `War and Peace` for children between 10-15 years at Slopeland Public School, Khongjom on May 16, Dr Nara said that cash awards and certificates will distribute at the spot by Russian Centre for Science and Cultural, Kolkata.

He appealed to the people to take part in the event and join in raising the voice against war and campaign for a better world.

General secretary of the organizing committee Professor Sadananda and treasurer of the committee Tomba were also present at the meet.
