Former LDA chief sworn in as State chief information commissioner

IMPHAL, May 4: Retired IFS and former director of Loktak Development Authority (LDA), Th Ibobi Singh was sworn in as the State chief information commissioner Manipur today.

The oath of office was administered by Governor of Manipur, Dr KK Paul, today at Raj Bhawan, banquet hall.

The oath taking ceremony was also attended by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, cabinet ministers, MLAs, top police officials and bureaucrats of the State.

Speaking on the occasion, the newly appointed commissioner vowed to do his best to provide relevant information under the provision of the RTI Act 2005 and help maintain transparency and accountability on government related works.

Ensuring that there is no pending work when it comes to giving away information will be his top priority as the newly appointed commissioner, said Th Ibobi Singh adding that he will personally consult with the higher officials of all departments to be more efficient in the interest of RTI activists or information seekers.

Claiming that the RTI is being misused by some vested interest individuals, the commissioner also assured that such unwanted activities will be checked.

Nevertheless, without a State chief information officer his task will not be an easy one, asserted the commissioner.
