Indefinite NH-2 blockade from June 1 midnight announced over Dzuko land issue

IMPHAL, May 30: The Committee for Koziirii & Dziiko (Dzuko) Land Boundary Resolution spokesperson N Rajendro alias Boi has announced that the committee will impose an indefinite blockade on National Highway 2 from June 1 midnight.

Speaking to media persons at a press meet at the Manipur Press Club today, Boi who is also the president of the Information Centre for Hill Areas, Manipur, ICHAM said the blockade will be imposed against the failure of the government to act on the Dzuko land encroachment issue.

He said the government has already been informed about the alleged encroachment of land at Dzuko Valley by neighbouring State Nagaland and a memorandum already submitted to the State Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister had been urged to intervene on the issue and to deploy State security forces at Dzuko Valley, he said.

In this regard, the committee was formed on May 14 at the Mao Council Office, Tadubi and on the same day, the committee had announced to impose indefinite blockade in case the State government fail to intervene on the encroachment issue in time.

The Mao Council has been mounting pressure for more than seven months on the State government and a written intimation submitted to the Senapati DC Lazarus Jacintha who informed the Tadubi SDO about the same, he said.

The SDO along with the Mao Council had inspected the extent of the land encroachment and reported back to the DC and submit the report to the State chief secretary, Boi continued.

He said until the demand for proper demarcation and deployment of security forces at the dispute area is not met, the indefinite blockade will not be revoked.

The movement is not related to any community in particular said Boi and added that the movement is to safeguard the State territorial integrity.

He also added that if the issue is not addressed in time then it will be too late to bring a peaceful resolution.
