Local club demands penalty for Speaker`s escort

IMPHAL, May 19: The State government has not taken up any visible action regarding the assault committed on SI Amitabh by the Speaker`™s escort. The case regarding the said incident which occurred on May 10 near the Kangla gate has still to be properly investigated and legal action to be taken up by the concerned authorities, a press release by The Welfare Club, Sagolband Tera Akham Leikai general secretary, Ch Jiban Singh said.

It mentioned that various protests has been carried out demanding justice from concerned quarters, but there has not been any positive response from the State government. The Club has condemned the inaction and further for shielding the concerned culprits. To demand the proper rule of law, the club along with other like-minded organizations is ready to carry out further agitations. It also decried the fact that some locals of Khundrakpam area who are trying the mislead the issue due to having blind allegiance with the Speaker is unfortunate. The news which has been highlighted in the national media and the high handedness of the Speaker and his escort has been condemned nation-wide, it said.

It may be mentioned that the Khundrakpam BJP Mandal had decried that some section of the Khudrakpam area who are workers of Speaker Lokeshwar had blindly taken out an agitation demanding the termination of SI Amitabh. This agitation does not reflect the real opinion of the public of the area, but only perpetrated by those who are having a close nexus with the Speaker only. The Khundrakpam Kendra Protection and Development Committee is formed by supporters of Lokeshwar only, according to the BJP Mandal.

The BJP Mandal along with The Welfare Club demands that the matter be probed and the concerned culprits be booked as per the law. The VIP regime must be abolished, the release mentioned.
