MLA Nemcha calls for mass participation in election

KANGPOKPI, May 26: Kangpokpi AC MLA Nemcha Kipgen has called for mass participation of all eligible voters in the constituency in the ensuing 5th ADC Election, saying it is the only way to keep the spirit of June 1 alive.

The MLA was speaking at a public meeting and flag hoisting of Pratiman Kadariya, INC candidate from 3-Irang Part-I DCC today at Indira Government Aided Junior High School in Manedara along IT Road.

Emphasizing the necessity of mass participation in the election, MLA Nemcha Kipgen asserted that voting is the cornerstone of a democracy and it matters both to the health of Sadar Hills political system in particular and the state in general and to the people who participate in it.

Dismayed at the voter apathy during election, the MLA maintained that sadly far too few people vote before adding that voter have policy and political concerns whether the direction of an issue or priorities of public budgets `“ that would not be heard if they do not vote.

Advancing some reasons why people must get involved in the election processes, the MLA said, “It is you who have to decide by exercising your franchise rights those politicians who manage security, makes laws and policies which are very much concerned with and affects your life”.

`Will you leave that decision to some people?`, asked the MLA while adding that it is when voters turn out en-masse to vote that the message is the loudest and the mandate can be easily defended.

The Kangpokpi AC MLA also said that cooperation among the Election Commission, political parties, civil society organizations, media and the people is required to hold free, fair and transparent election which only about a week away.

She also urged underground elements to give respect to the fundamental rights of the people and called for maintenance of peace before, during and after polls.

The MLA hoisted the INC flag in the presence of Haokholal Hangshing, sitting Chairman ADC Sadar Hills, Seikhosat Kipgen, sitting EM ADC Sadar Hills, Bhumi Prasad Basnet, sitting MDC ADC Sadar Hills and Pratiman Kadariya, intending INC candidate of Irang Part-1 apart from the mass.

Meanwhile, Haokholal Hangshing, sitting ADC Sadar Hills Chairman said that India is a multi party system as well as multi castes society where each section needs to have a say in the decision making process and the parties help them to do so.

He continued that although the competition for power is huge and aggressive, Congress party take care of the emotions of people to get elected and to be elected by satisfying the people.

Bhumi Prasad Basnet, sitting MDC, Pratiman Kadariya, INC candidate of Irang Pt. `“ I and GB of Irang part `“ 1 Hari Prasad Nepal also spoke on the occasion where more than 500 people took part.
