Royal Riders plants saplings as part of World Environment Day celebration

IMPHAL, May 24: As part of the month long World Environment Day celebration locally entitled as 7th Mahousa Ima Ningshing Tha, Royal Riders Manipur in association with Green Revolution Society planted 100 saplings at Uyal Mamang Ching, Wangbal in Thoubal district today.

The observance of the month long celebration which had commenced from May 6 is being held under the United Nation theme “™Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care`™`™.

Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the plantation drive, vice-president of Royal Riders RK Momo said that the observance of Mahousa Ima Ningtha Tha has been observed since 2009 with the objective of safeguarding trees and forests for a better environment.

He informed that a mass public awareness campaign along with a tree plantation drive at Jiribam was organized on May 10 followed by Save Our River/Save Nambul River/ Cleanup Campaign on May 17 while a campus awareness programme was successfully organized on May 20 as part of the celebration.

The concluding function of the month long celebration will be held at the office of Royal Riders situated at Langol on June 5, he added.

Stating that it is high time for people to understand the benefits of trees as the present condition of environment in the state is in pitiful condition, he said that the joining of Green Revolution Society Manipur in the venture to raise awareness of the needs to take positive environmental action is a welcoming step.

He appealed to the people to extend support in such kind of plantation drive in future as well and set an example to future generation regarding the need for conserving environment.

At the site of the tree plantation, a formal function was also conducted wherein Adakshya of Thoubal Zilla Parishad, Kh ongbi Surnalata Devi; chairperson of Thoubal Municipal Council, Y Biren Singh; Deputy Commissioner Thoubal Muncipal Council, T Ranjit Singh; SP Thoubal, K Radheshyam Singh; president of Royal Riders, Thangjam Miren and officials of the bikers group and Green Revolution Society attended.
