Heirok public demands death sentences for Rebika`s killers

IMPHAL, June 11: Decrying the alleged murder of Ningthoujam Rebika Chanu whose body was found on the morning of June 6 and demanding death sentences for all found involved in the heinous crime, sit in protests were staged in different parts of Heirok and Keirembikhok today.

The demonstrators were also seen demanding the government to check the increase in crimes against women and children in the State at the earliest.

On the other hand, the main accused in the case, Tekcham Yaima, 20 son of Shamo of Wangjing Tekcham Leikai was produced for the second time today regarding the case before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Thoubal Kimneining Shoute and was remanded to 15 days of judicial custody following an appeal from the IO of the case.

As part of the mass agitation held today, Tomal Makhong Youth Club, the club of the victim`™s locality organised a sit in protest at its premises.

Speaking at the protest site, Rebika`™s mother Manitombi questioned what her daughter`™s crime was and further demanded death sentences for those committing such inhumane crimes against women.

A sit in protest was also staged at Heirok part 1 Mayai Leikai organised by the MYC Club declaring agitations will continue until the culprits are punished.

At Keirembikhok, the local branch of the Nupi Samaj also staged a similar sit in and demanded death sentence for the culprits observing that such strong punishments will only deter others from committing heinous crimes against women.

Meanwhile, Tourangbam Leikai Youth Club, Heirok Part III organised a torch rally taken out around Heirok which was flagged-off from Heirok Tourangbam Leikai.

The rally was participated by thousands of protestors.
