IMC employees strike enters 11th day

MPHAL June 19: A cease-work strike of Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) employees demanding revised pay under the Sixth Pay Commission concluded the tenth day today.

The strike has been called by the Imphal Municipal Employees Union, IMEU.

Employees of the council staged a dharna in front of the IMC, locking the gate demanding their entitlement.

All sections of the council Revenue, Sanitary, General, Assessment and Engineering have come to a halt since the cease work started on June 10.

So far the State has remain mute to our demands, lamented one of the workers saying their demand was first made in December 2013.

Some months back, an agreement was signed between the IMC chairperson, executive officer and the union assuring to meet the demand, however, the agreement is yet to be turn into action till date, he said.

The cease-work strike has been launched against the indifference of the authorities and will be continued until their demand is met, he said before adding that the union has altogether 218 members including sweepers with regular post.
