Manipur Inferno razes school, residential houses, properties worth over Rs 60 lakhs destroyed

KANGPOKPI, June 2: In an unfortunate fire accident, the Brighter English Junior High School at Keithelmanbi and the residential building of the school owner and one neighbouring residential house has been completely razed to the ground by a devastated fire in the wee hours of yesterday morning at around 2:30 am at Keithelmanbi (Champhai) in Sadar Hills.

The school comprising of 9 classroom caught fire suspected to be from an electric short circuit at around 2:30 am but the incident only came to be noticed half an hour later by the school secretary and other three children who were sleeping inside the common room who managed to escaped the devastating fire.

The fire also destroyed the residential building of the school owner Paominlun Kipgen situated near the school building.

The properties of both the building destroyed by the fire has been estimated at around Rs. 60,24,750/- said Paominlun Kipgen who had already filed an FIR at Kangpokpi Police Station.

When the fire service arrived at the spot it was already too late to control the fire and the survivors remained completely dispirited who could only witness the destructive fire razing the school and the entire properties on the ground, said the school owner Paominlun Kipgen.

The school was established by (L). Thanggin Kipgen and his wife (L). Lhingneikim in the year 1980.

Besides the school, a residential building belonging to one Letkholen Lhouvum just a metre away from the school building has also been badly affected by the fire destroying all the pucca ceiling and roof part of the house including properties worth around Rs.20 lacs.

The house owner had already lodged an FIR at Kangpokpi Police Station.
