Senior Army commander visits State

IMPHAL, Jun 12: Army Commander Eastern Army visited Manipur and reviewed the prevailing security situation in the State, informed a PRO Defence statement.

According to the statement, the Army Commander complemented troops for the well executed operation along Myanmar Border in the wake of the ambush by insurgents against troops of 6 DOGRA.

He discussed with the local commanders the preparation and planning for future operations. Senior Air Force officers were also present during the discussion, it said.

He explained the need to ensure protective measures to prevent attacks by insurgent groups, which are likely to increase. At the same time he emphasized on people friendly operations so as to cause minimum hardship to the local people. He informed that troops must follow the rules of engagement and all effort must be made to neutralize insurgent groups through intelligence based operations. People must realize that the SF are here to protect them and to bring about peace and tranquility in the state with the ultimate aim of development of the North East region. He reiterated that people are and will remain our focus and our concern for their well being is paramount. We must not allow insurgents to vitiate the prevailing peaceful environment in the State of Manipur.
