IMPHAL, June 13: Demanding death penalty for the killers of Ningthoujam Rebika who was allegedly raped and murdered at Heirok Part III on June 6, womenfolk of Wangjing Tekcham Leikai staged a sit-in-protest at Wangjing Tekcham Leikai Khongnang Makhong Lampak, Thoubal district today.
Tekcham Jasraj, 24 alias Yaima son of T Shyam of Wangjing Tekcham Leikai, the main accused in the case has been arrested by the police the same day Rebika`™s body was recovered on June 6.
During the demonstration, the protestors resolved to not allow Yaima the main accused in the case stay further in the locality for his heinous crime.
A sit-in-protest was also organized by Divine Life Club, Heirok Part II Mayai Leikai at its premises in protest against the raped and murdered of Rebika.
An effigy of the accused Yaima was also burnt by the protestors and demanded death sentence be awarded to him.
It may be mentioned that the last rites of Rebika was performed yesterday after taking the dead body from the JNIMS morgue.
