World Blood Donor Day observed

IMPHAL, June 14: State Blood Transfusion Council; Manipur State Aids Control Society and Life Savers Manipur jointly observed the World Blood Donor Day at Gandhi Memorial Hall today.

The observance function was attended by Medical Superintendent of JNIMS Dr W Gopimohon Singh as chief guest; Project Director of MSACS Ms Regina Hongray as president and Professor of Department of IHBT, RIMS Dr A Meina Singh as guest of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, Director of State Blood Transfusion Council Dr RK Rosie said that World Blood Donor Day has been observed all over the world and for this year the observance is held under the theme `Thank You For Saving My Life`.

She further said that this year theme is a mark of appreciation by blood recipients to donors who donated their precious blood to save lives of many people.

Although science has developed considerably making lives of people easier, it cannot make human blood. Huge quantity of blood will be required by 2020 to save lives of many, she added.

As part of the function, altogether 148 blood donors including Dr H Romen, Bishnupur correspondent of Imphal Free Press were felicitated by presenting citation, certificate and shawl.

The Regional Institute of Medical Science also observed the day.

A statment of the hospital, the RIMS Blood Donors`™ community and IHBT department, under the sponsorship and guidance of RIMS authority organised a blood donation camp to mark the World Blood Day 2015 at RIMS on June 14 from 9 am to 5 pm.

According to a release of RIMS, more than 120 donors, mainly health care professionals donated blood.

An observance function of the World Blood Donors Day on the theme `Thank You for Saving My Life`™ was also held with Director of RIMS, Professor S Rita Devi as chief guest with RIMS, medical superintendent professor M Amuba Singh as president.

Dr Y Mohen, Dr Brogen Akoijam, Dr Joy Akoijam, Dr Trinity, Dr Kaushik Nandi and eight other health care professionals, doctors and medical students who have donated more than 10 times were felicitated on the occasion.
