Chandel, July 16: Anal Lelruwl Tangpi (Anal Students Union) has expressed deep resentment over the frequent absence of departmental heads of Chandel District.
Issuing a press statement in this regard the union said `It is shocking as well as abysmal to know that these officials don`™t attend office for days and even for months. When they do attend, they come on their own convenient time`™.
`As per reliable source, some department heads are running office at their residences. Their non-presence in the office compelled people to travel up to Imphal to get signature, which in return effects people economically`™. With this regard, the student Union asked if this was ethics of work culture .
It said ALT has been monitoring the functions of various departments in the district these past few days. Most of the times, almost all the offices would be locked. Some offices are found opened but with just one or two staffs in attendance, which is befooling the people as though office is functioning.
Saying that the two most efficient heads are Deputy Commissioner & Chief Medical Officer, Chandel District, `The rest are frauds`™, it alleged and went on to say that they draw salary by attending office hardly 5 `“ 6 days a month. `The government should pay their salaries measuring number of days they attend office, not in monthly basis`™, it added.
`Being posted at Chandel District is same as heavenly abode to these erring officials. They spent quiet & luxurious life at home, where as people here are suffering & facing a lot of hardships due to their prolonged absences. Every system in Chandel is broken & fragile`™. It said.
ALT therefore appeals the Deputy Commissioner to use his authority which the govt. empowers him against these erring officials for regular attendance. He could not remain a blind eye to all these turned of the events. He would be equally blamed for in case nothing concrete measurement is initiated to stop this menace, it warned.
Maintaing that there are 42 departments, and almost all of them are dysfunctional in the district H/Q Chandel, ALT advises concerned departmental heads to attend office regularly from next week onwards.
Informing that ALT will make a spree of surprise checking of all the departments, and any office found to be defying this ultimatum may invite serious of unwarranted consequences, fall out at the backdrop of this issue would be solely their responsibility, the body warned.
