Maoist suspends gen strike temporarily

IMPHAL, July 30: The Maoist Communist Party, Manipur has temporarily suspended its proposed general strike on August 1 against the incumbent Director of Art & Culture Department in view of the present situation arising out of the people`™s movement for enactment of a new bill to safeguard the indigenous people.

A statement signed by Comrade Nonglen Meitei, Secretary Publicity & Propaganda of Maoist Communist Party, Manipur said the general strike was called to let the people know about the authoritarian style of working adopted by the Director and his harsh attitude towards the outfit.

However, the imposition clamped by the outfit against the erring Director will remain effective. He has been also barred from taking part in public gathering, it statement said.
