Thoubal students form human chains in support of ILPS demand

THOUBAL, July 20: Students in Thoubal district also formed human chains and demonstrated at several places in the district today showing support to the movement spearheaded by the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System demanding the implementation of the ILPS or a similar legislation in the State.

Students of KM Blooming Higher Secondary School, New Public Higher Secondary School and Khangabok High School all located in the Khangabok area of the district came out in full strength and formed a silent human chain along the national highway.

During the silent protest, students were also seen holding placards demanding implementation of the ILPS in the State, condemning the death of class XI student Sapam Robinhood due to police firing and demanded punishment of the police involved in the incident.

Students of Chouyaima Higher Secondary School, Thoubal also formed a similar human chain along the highway as part of the movement.

Thoubal district co-convenor of the JCILPS students`™ wing Th Sushil who also participated in today`™s demonstration appealed to the police to unconditionally release all students who have been arrested during the ongoing movement.

He also said the Thoubal unit of the students`™ wing will continue to support the movement of the JCILPS.

Students collaborated with meira paibis, local youth clubs to form similar human chains in Heirok Bazar today.

The protestors later took out a rally from Heirk Bazar to Heirok Gate.

Similar human chains were also formed in Uchol Village under Andro Assembly Constituency by students of the area.

Meanwhile, supporting the call of the JCILPS to suspend all economic activities, women folk of Yairipok Keithel suspended their economic activities for the day and staged a sit in protest at their market sheds.

Women vendors of Tampha Keithel and New Market of Yairipok also came out since early morning and instead of their daily economic activities staged their protest.

The women protestors also formed a human chain in support of the present movement demanding implementation of the ILPS or a similar legislation in the State at the earliest.

They also used placards demanding punishment of the police personnel involved in the death of Sapam Robinhood and implementation of the ILPS or a similar legislation in the State at the earliest.

Later in the afternoon, residents of the area came out and formed a human chain around the Yairipok Keithel

A protestor appealed to the government to understand the desires of the public and act accordingly.

The demonstrations were also attended by members of the JCILPS.
