CHANDEL, Aug 30: Members of Unified Sporting Association (UNISA) led by its president L Lordhring destroyed country liquor worth Rs 70,000 in Chandel district headquarters today.
The liquor which was seized from a woman at around 7 am was disposed before media and in the presence of Japhou Bazar Authority chairman Js Angam at Japhou market complex around 11 am.
Briefing media persons, UNISA activist and treasurer Nungchandai Ruwndar identified the liquor owner as Ws Dangte Anal and said that Dangte Anal was given temporary residence at UNISA`s office cum godown on rent considering her difficulties during the time of the recent flood.
She further said that on getting information about Dangte`s involvement in selling of liquor, UNISA members pulled up Dangte for further questioning and consequent to the raids and search conducted behind her suspected indulgence, a team of UNISA found the liquor from the office cum godown which Dangte used it on rent at around 7 in the morning.
`Dangte would be strictly punished however details of the nature of fines and penalty to be charged are pending as of now, N.Ruwndar added.
