First day of hills bandh total in CCpur

CCPUR, Oct 18: The first day of the 48-hour total bandh in the hill districts of Manipur called by the JAC formed in connection with the alleged Khadangband killing witnessed total closedown and went smoothly without major incidents in the district.

The bandh was supported by major student organisations of the district like the ZS Ghq, HSA Ghq and KSO Ghq.

It was a rare kind of a bandh which didn`™t affect the schools, bringing relieve to the parents. Schools were allowed to open till noon.

Meanwhile, the KSO Churachandpur has issued a press statement regarding the 48 hour bandh stating that apart from education institutions others exempted are water supply, medicals, power, media and religious functions.

The bandh which was called against the failure of the government to bring out the report of the magisterial enquiry set up in the alleged fake encounter by 8 Assam Rifles in the month of January killing a leader of the SoO signatory group KNF Robert hesei Kipgen and a civilian Khupneihlal Neihsial.

The enquiry set up on January 31 was supposed to bring out its report within three months, but now after eight months no reports of the enquiry have been brought out infuriating the people and thus the JAC`™s bandh was supported by the tribal organisations of Churachandpur.

In the meantime, the internet portal of the Zo community, the Zogam.com and a Zomi writer LT Ngaihte who is also an indian government officer paid their respect to the nine tribal martyrs at the Churachandpur District Hospital morgue and made donations through the JPO counter.

The Zogam.com team along with MDC CT Lian Guite handed out traditional pots and a bag of rice to each of the nine families. Till the filing of this report the amount donated today had reached Rs 50000 approximately from eight donors.
