Militants planning to kidnap workers held

IMPHAL, October 20: Two KRA (U) cadres who were planning to abduct the staff of a contractor for the repair and maintenance of the NH 2 were apprehended on October 18, according to a PRO (Defence) Imphal statement.

The statement said troops of Jwalamukhi Battalion of Senapati Brigade under Red Shield Division apprehended two active cadres of the KRA (U) in an operation carried out on October 18.

It said in the operation, two KRA (U) cadres were apprehended from Pongmol village of Senapati district.

The individuals are identified as Lamkhapao Chongloi, 31, son of Hekai Chongloi and Thangkholun Chongloi, 44, son of Tongking Chongloi both residents of village Khenjang in Senapati District, it said.

They were apprehended alongwith a 7.65 mm pistol, four live ammunitions of 7.65 mm and Rs 2500/-, it said.

Lamkhapao Chongloi confessed that he is the president of KRA (U) under KNO umbrella and has been involved in various nefarious activities of the group, it said. The apprehendees were planning to abduct the staff of contactor responsible for the repair and maintenance of NH-2, it said.

The insurgents were later handed over to police for further investigation, it said.
