15th AITUC Manipur State Conference held

IMPHAL, Nov 24: The 15th State Conference of All India Trade Union Congress, Manipur was held at Shyama Devi Town Hall, Chingmeirong. The Conference elected Dr. M. Nara and L Sotinkumar as president and general secretary respectively, said a statement of the AITUC.

It said th newly elected general secretary Sotinkumar in a press meet pointed out the following resolutions adopted in the conference – Against price rise of essential commodities; Implementation of food security act, Giving social security benefit to all workers, Against labour law reforms by BJP led NDA Government, Fixing lowest wage at Rs. 5,000/-, Giving Rs. 4,000/- monthly pension to all workers and keeping Highway Protection Force to get rid of extreme inconveniences including murder, kidnapping and looting.

On these rightful demands mass protest rally, dharana etc. will be started at its first phase covering all valley and hill districts ofManipur, it said.

It said the state conference was attended by 500 delegates from 75 Union! Associations affiliated to AITUC. The conference elected a General Council consisting of 123 members, a 25 member executive and 11 member secretariat. The year 2016 will be the year to strengthen workers` force and AITUC Manipur will try its level best to raise the number ofUnionl Associations affiliated to its from the present 75 to 100 and a total membership of two lacs target. If we want to build up a classless society then we need to strengthen workers` unions and raise our united demands and struggle tirelessly to reach our goals, said Sotinkurnar. The conference also elected 40 delegates to participate at the 41 st AITUC National Conference with will be held from 15 to 18 December, 2015 at Coirnbatore, Tamil Nadu.
