AJICLA calls cease work stir from Nov 9 over service regularization

JIRIBAM, November 7: The All Jiribam Contract Lecturer’s Association (AJICLA) will launch cease work strike from November 9 in pursuance of its demand for regularization of service of Lecturers working on contractual basis in the Higher Secondary Schools of the State.

The decision of the cease work stir was taken during a meeting of AJICLA, said members of the association in a press conference held at Jiribam Higher Secondary School, Jiribam in presence of contract lecturers of Jiribam.

According to advisor of AJICLA Kh Indikumar Singh, the lecturers on per time basis were appointed by Th Devendra Singh in 1992 when he was the Education Minister of the State government to meet the shortage of staff in the secondary level of the schools with a meager monthly remuneration of Rs 1000.

Later after several agitations by the association and Part time lecturers on March 13, 2013, the part time service of the Lecturer was converted into contractual basis. The lecturers were allowed to enjoy the basic pay plus grade pay of the 6th ROP amounting to Rs 13,700 as monthly salary, he said.

President of AJICLA N Sanjib Kumar Singh said that among the contract lecturers, some of them have been serving from the last 20 years and they are likely to be retired in next two-three years.

He further said that they had met with the concern authorities several times to highlight their grievance and the authorities had shown sympathy towards the aggrieved teachers.

As the teachers have been reeling under untold miseries owing to mere salary, the association decided to launch cease work strike with no option left, he said.

Advisor of AJICLA H Rajenkumar Singh lamented that the contractual lecturers of the Higher Secondary School are the long sufferers and their fates remain uncertain due to inaction of the government on the service regularization.

He said that it has become a hard task for them to maintain their families with meager monthly earning.

Vice- president of the association M Romeo Singh said that the contract lecturers are not getting their salaries for the last nine months and asked the concerned authorities how long the teachers will provide quality education with starving stomach.

Meanwhile, the AJICLA has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister requesting for service regularization of the contract Lecturers serving in the Higher Secondary Schools on humanity ground.
