National Law Day observed

IMPHAL, Nov 26: The High Court Bar Association of Manipur as part of its silver jubilee celebration observed ‘National Law Day’ today at the auditorium of the High Court of Manipur at Mantripukhri.

The function was attended by Th Ibohal Singh, Ld Advocate General, Manipur; Senior Advocate Kh Binoykumar Singh, president, High Court Bar Association of Manipur; Senior Advocate N Ibotombi Singh, chairman, Bar Council of Manipur as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

Senior Advocate N Ibotombi Singh in his speech mentioned that the significance of National Law Day observance in India lies in the fact that it was on this day in the year 1949, the drafting of the Constitution by the Constituent Assembly which started functioning on December 9, 1946 under the Chairmanship of Dr BR Ambedkar was completed after a span of 2 years, 11 months and 17 days.

Subsequently, it was signed on January 24, 1950 and enacted on January, 26 1950 which is the date the Constituent Assembly ceased to exist transforming to the birth of the provisional Parliament of India.
