CM Ibobi calls for concerted effort to achieve 100 percent literacy rate

IMPHAL, December 30: Noting the importance and potential of education and health sectors in the State, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh maintained that despite the limited resources that the government has, the two sectors are it’s top agendas.

The CM was attending the closing ceremony of the 21st Sports Meet of RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya and inauguration of a newly built Indoor Stadium of RK Sanatombi Devi College of Education at Pangei, Imphal East today.

Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Ibobi stated that education and health sectors are of utmost importance as the two sectors cannot be compromised regardless of the limited resources.

He emphasized the need for putting in joint efforts from the government and private sectors to achieve 100 percent literacy rate in the State from the present 77 percent.

As the government has to work on other sectors as well other than education and health, there is a need for private sectors to work in unison with the government so as to further boost the two sectors, he said.

Acknowledging the role of RK Sanatombi Devi College of Education in transforming and consolidating human resources in the State, the CM said that every individual should contribute its part towards building a strong society.

Ibobi also applauded the notable role of Chairman, Managing Committee of the educational institution, Th Haridas Singh.

Deputy CM Gaikhangam who presided over the function asserted that education is not only about reading books to enlighten but it is about gaining valuable knowledge to value and sustain life.

He exhorted the students to stick to hard work and perseverance and discipline as these will lead them to success in life.

The indoor stadium inaugurated by CM Ibobi was constructed under the funding of University Grant Commission (UGC) at an estimated cost of Rs 81 lakh and in remembrance of Late Justice RK Manisana, former Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court.

The CM also received a march past parade took out by students of RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya and distributed prizes to respective winners of the sports meet and best candidates of the march past parade.

As part of the programme, Ibobi also released yearly magazine of the institute ‘Sanarik Pareng’.

Director of College Development Council, Manipur University Professor Th Ratankumar Singh attended the programme as guest of honour.
