IMPHAL, December 28: Minister Irengbam Hemochandra today encouraged the people to take up yoga stating that widespread practice of yoga in the State would bring calmness of the mind among the people and in the long run help in controlling some of the crimes committed in the State today.
He was speaking during an anniversary function of the Chingamathak Yoga Centre and Certificate distribution ceremony of a 30-day long yoga camp.
The function was jointly organized by the Chingamathak Yoga Centre and Bharat Swabhiman Trust & Patanjali Yoga Samiti, Imphal West.
PHED, Labour and Employment minister Irengbam Hemochandra said that practicing yoga helps the individual transcend the self and attain peace of mind and physical, mental and spiritual balance.
He elaborated practicing yoga helps one to control his mind, body and soul.
It brings together physical and mental disciplines to achieve a peaceful body and mind, it helps to manage stress and anxiety and keep you relaxed, he said, and added that the essence of Yoga resolves around elevating the life force at the base of the spine.
It aims to achieve this though a series of physical and mental exercises, he said.
At the physical level the methods comprise of various yoga postures that aim to keep the body healthy.
The mental techniques include breathing exercises and meditation to discipline the mind.
He continued that practicing yoga does not categorize one’s religion and it is a way of living with a healthy mind and a healthy body, and added that it will surely bring a peaceful lifestyle.
During the function Rajya Prabhari, Bharat Swabhiman Trust, Manipur State, Th Nilakumar Singh; consultant, BST & PYS, Imphal West, Dr RK Roshini Raj Lakshmi also attended the function.
Certificates were also distributed to the participants of the 30 days long yoga camp held at the Chingamathak Yoga Centre. Various yoga methods were also showcased by the participants.
