Maring students impose indefinite bandh in Chandel

IMPHAL, December 14: The Maring Students’ Union (MSU) has called an indefinite bandh from December 15 morning in Chandel district strongly condemning the indifferent attitude of 20 Assam Rifles with regards to the alleged shooting incident that left a minor boy injured.

In a joint statement, MSU informed that the bandh will commence from 5.30 am with the endorsement from the All Naga Students’ Association (ANSAM) adding that essential services like water supply, electricity, health and education will be exempted within the purview of the bandh.

It further stated that 12-year-old M Edwin Maring, son of Jacob was injured in an alleged indiscriminate firing by 20 Assam Rifles personnel in civies on December 11 last at Beaulahram Village around 11 am.

Following the incident senior Maring leader along with the MSU had held a meeting with the CO of 20 AR on December 12. However, two days have passed and nothing has been done to materialised the assurance given by the CO, it said.
