No FIR registered on written complaint from Robinhood’s father: Police officer deposes before commission

IMPHAL, December 28: A police officer today deposed before the Commission of Inquiry Commission constituted to probe the death of class XI student Sapam Robinhood.

Thangjam Dinesh Singh, the officer in charge of Porompat Police Station when the incident occurred on July 8 in his statement said on the day, around 1:20pm, he had informed the then OC in-charge of the Porompat Police Station SI Md Salauddin on his mobile phone about the incident mentioning the injury of a boy.

He said he had also instructed the OC in charge to register an FIR to take up necessary action.

The suo-moto FIR was however, registered against the student protestors, he replied during his cross examination by the counsel of Robinhood’s family.

He further admitted that on July 16, Sapam Romesh Singh, father of the deceased S Robinhood had lodged a written report to register an FIR case against the police personnel who were involved in causing death of his son.

He also admitted that no FIR was registered on the basis of the written report lodged by Sapam Romesh Singh.

During the cross examination by the commission, he said P Manjit, Addl SP (L&O) Imphal East, was the senior most police officer present on that day.

There were three other police officers who were senior to him present at the spot and they were SDPO Porompat Ramgopal Singh, Dy SP (Ops) L Deven Singh and Inspector John Singh, the then RI Imphal East District.

He also said that no rubber bullet was fired on the said day from the side of the police. It may be mentioned here that only 26 days is left for the commission to submit its report to the government.
