RIMS contractual nurses stage sit-in over service regularization

IMPHAL, December 12: Demanding service regularization, 21 nurses on contract basis of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) staged a sit-in-protest and shut down the hospital casualty today.

Medical Superintendent RIMS arrived at the protest demonstration but failed to pacify the protestors over their demand.

Speaking to media persons, one of the protesting nurses with condition of anonymity reiterated that the High Court of Manipur had given verdict directing the concerned authorities to appoint them as regular staff of RIMS which is due to take place.

She pledged to continue the agitation till the legitimate demand is met by the hospital authority.

71 vacant posts of nurse in the hospital were filled up in 2011 and later another 22 candidates in waiting seat were appointed on contract basis in 2013 to meet the staff shortage, she said.

She claimed that one of the 22 contractual staff nurses was permitted to appear in the examination for appointment of regular staff conducted by RIMS today.

She then said that membership of the candidate has been cut off and she should not be given the facility of the court verdict for her misconduct.
