Bandh cripples Bishnupur district

BISHNUPUR, January 7: The 24 hours State-wide bandh imposed by several organisations in protest against the government’s decision of renaming of Thangjing Sub-Division as Thangting Sub-Division and Moirang Ibudhou Thangjing as Thangting, paralysed normal life in Bishnupur district. The bandh was clamped jointly by JAC Tiddim; Moirang Thangjing Seva Mandal; Kege Moirang Cheirap Loishang Moirang; UKAL; JCILPS; International Meitei Forum and several other civil organizations.

Normal activities at Kumbi, Moirang, Phubala and Ningthoukhong were greatly affected due to the bandh.

Inter district passenger services stayed off the roads. Passenger and private vehicles plying between Ningthoukhong and Bishnupur were checked by the bandh supporters.

They also blocked roads at Terakhongshangbi Thangjing Laikol, Torbung Bangla, Kumbi, Moirang Lamkhai, Phubala and Tiddim areas by placing wood logs.

However, there is no news of any untoward incidents during the course of the bandh.

Meanwhile, the organisations have unanimously resolved to impose indefinite bandh along Tiddim Road in case the government fails to give positive response to its demand before January 17.
