Cultural session for 17th General Conference of KLFO

IMPHAL, January 30: Cultural sessions of the 17th General Conference cum Cultural and Sports Meet of Kham Lungpha Fraternity Organisation were held today at Shungriphai located in Ukhrul district.

The conference which is held every two years was hosted by the Shungriphai Youth Club this year.

This year’s edition is participated by 28 villages from different parts of the State took part in the conference cum cultural and sports meet held to identify and unite the different Tangkhul Kamo ethnic communities with the titles ‘Momo Koko.’

Today’s session was attended by Central PWD Delhi engineer Leishiyo Keishing, assistant inspector Ukhrul, Education Marem, senior MO, RIMS Dr Rachel Keishing, Information Centre for Hill Areas Manipur president N Rajendro and president KLFO A Amo Wungden as presidium members.

Speaking on the occasion, Leishiyo stressed on the importance conservation of forest resources to preserve the rich traditional cultures.

He said that the tradition and culture of the ethnic communities of the Tangkhuls is interlinked with the forest and destroying forest will ultimately led to losing our culture.

In her speech, Dr Rachel proposed on conservation and preservation of the indigenous traditions and customs of the Tangkhuls and further urged the younger generation to inculcate the traditions of the forefathers.

Rajendro spoke about including education programmes in the KLFO conference in future.

Without education there can be no development in any community, he said.

He further urged the community to work together to bring back the pride of holding important positions in State administration which they once had working on encouraging education and developing human resources.

Various activities including folk song, folk dance, traditional fire making were conducted as part of the cultural session by diverse troupes coming from different villages.

Tug of war, archery competitions for both men and women were also held in the sports category.
