Disaster training inaugurated at Khundrakpam

IMPHAL, January 18: A three-day long Disaster Management Training Programme was inaugurated today at Khundrakpam in Imphal East, organised by the Relief and Disaster Management Training Programme, Government of Manipur.

The programme is being conducted at the KC High School campus.

The inaugural function was attended by IGP S Manglemjao as the chief guest, R&DM department staff officer Md Ayub Khan as president and Khundrakpam Gram Panchayat Pradhan S Tombi Devi as guest of honour.

Speaking at the function, Manglemjao said the training programme is being organised as it is a known fact that since Manipur falls in the very high risk seismic zone V, a strong earthquake is inevitable in the State.

At the same time recently an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 Richter scale had jolted the region creating a panicky situation in the State, he added.

The programme is a preparation to minimise the risk on human lives and property during such an eventuality, he added.

Such training programmes will be conducted at different places of the State, he added.

In his speech, Md Ayub Khan stressed upon the importance of the training programme.
