Fest of Traditional, contemporary plays begins

IMPHAL, January 18: The second festival of Traditional & Contemporary Manipuri Plays-2014-15 being organised by Liberty Theatre, Kakching under the sponsorship of Ministry of Culture Government of India kicked off today at the auditorium of Library & Information Centre, Kakching.

Seven theatre groups from different parts of the State are taking part in the festival. ‘Puremba’ of Liberty Threatre Kakching was displayed on the first day today. Langmeidong Dramatic Union will perform ‘Upu Bakshi’ tomorrow; ‘Punshi, Laibak amadi Tunglamchat’ of Kanglei Arts-Manipur on January 20; ‘Loushi Patta Thoibi’ of Kakching Dramatic Union on January 21; ‘Water water’ of Manipur Theatre Academy, Wangoi on January 22 and ‘Naughty Boy’, ‘Mime Stick Dance’ and ‘Crash but Alive’ of Kanglei Mime Theatre Repertory, Imphal on January 23.

On the last day of the festival January 24, Pan-Manipur Theatre, Sekmai will stage its play ‘Dreams from my room’.

Retd principal of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy and member of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi Padmashree Shougaijam Thanil and theatre scholar Prof Dr Lokendra Arambam attended the inauguration function as president and guest of honour respectively.

A souvenir on the festival was released during the occasion.
