Herojit “safe and sound”

IMPHAL, January 27: Contrary to speculations that Thounaojam Herojit who arrived at the Imphal Airport today vanished mysteriously from the arrival lounge, implying he has been waylaid by unidentified persons, the Manipur Police head constable confirmed to this reporter from an undisclosed location that he is safe and sound following his return from Delhi.

However, he mentioned that he is apprehensive that there might be a conspiracy to cause him and his family members harm. “It is not that I am in hiding out of only fear, but I want to prove the veracity of what I have stated and that I did so with a sound mind. I want the Union Home Ministry to intervene and provide an arrangement in such a manner that I can state openly to the concerned authorities what had happened.”

“I have no trust in the State anymore and also fear for my family members.” He also mentioned that whatever verdict the Court gives in regard to his testimony – he will accept it. “ I am ready to face any penalty the Court gives, the consequences do not matter as long as I prove what I have stated is true, before that happens I do not want to be got rid of clandestinely” he said.

It may be mentioned that Herojit had implicated Imphal West SP Akoijam Jhalajit of giving the kill order of Ch Sanjit, but this has since been denied by the SP as baseless.

The Minister of State, Home, Kiren Rijiju in the meantime has taken cognizance of Herojit’s confession, which has since been broadcast by CNN-IBN. The MoS said he will ask his division to ensure that steps are taken to protect the life of the head constable.

Rijiju mentioned that the CBI should investigate and file supplementary charge sheet after the fresh revelation.

Meanwhile, during the beating of the retreat today, the Chief Minister and the Home Minister on being asked for comments on the matter, declined any reply.
