IMPHAL December 31: Imphal city’s sanitation and hygiene condition will be reviewed in January 2016 by the Ministry of Urban Development.
This was informed by officials of MAHUD and IMC led by RK Dinesh of MAHUD during a press meet at the conference hall of Old Secretariat here today.
According to the officials, Imphal is one of the 75 cities where the survey will be conducted by Quality Council of India on behalf of the Ministry of Urban
Development on January 12, 13 and 14, 2016. The ranking results will be announced on January 25.
This will be the first ground survey after the launching of the much- hyped Swachh Bharat Mission launched in October 2014 which aims at ensuring door to door garbage collection and proper disposal of solid waste in all the urban areas. The survey will also monitor construction of household toilets and community toilet seats in the urban areas.
The proposed survey and subsequent rating aim at fostering a spirit of competition among the cities and ensuring cleanliness in urban areas. Additionally the survey will offer a comprehensive assessment of the level of cleanliness and the respective municipal corporation’s level of preparedness to enable the government in scaling up urbanization, the officials said.
A total of 1000 marks will be allotted for collection of data and interaction with IMC while 500 marks will be allotted for collection of data from direct observation. Another 500 marks will be allotted for collection of data from random citizen feedbacks.
Saying that a total of 1000 contact numbers per ward have been furnished out of which the Quality Council of India will randomly contact 50 each, the officials appealed to the people to extend cooperation to the initiative.

The area of evaluation includes strategy for open defecation free town and integrated solid waste management (5 percent); information, education and the behaviour change communication (5 percent); door to door collection, sweeping, collection & transportation (20 percent); processing and disposal (40 percent); public & community toilet provision (15 percent) and individual toilet (15 percent), they informed.
According to the officials, so far five areas namely Uripok Ward No 4, Poana Bazaar, Thangal Bazaar/MG Avenue, Sanjenthong Officers Colony and Babubara Officers Colony have daily collection facilities.
The IMC also plans to install more dustbins by tying up with shopkeepers from the first week of January.
MUDA officials also congratulated Imphal Sporting Club for joining the group of 32 identified by Resident Welfare Association under the Ministry of Urban Development, GOI in recognition of their community participation.
