IMPHAL, January 4: A sit in protest was held today at Konthoujam Loukon by the villagers which are affected by the Railway line. The Railway Affected Landowners Welfare Committee (RALOWCO) organized the protest.

Finance secretary of the Committee, K Biren told IFP, the new Jiri-Tupul railway line is welcomed by them, but the line trespasses on private property along six villages namely Malom, Yurembam, Konthoujam, Langsonbi, Bamdiar and Chngangei. He alleged that the compensation given by the State government is not uniform and some have been given more and some less. He said that the government should avoid such nepotism and give the villagers the proper compensation. Further, if the Govt. fails to heed the plight of the affected people, there will be more severe agitation in future, he said.
