BISHNUPUR, January 21: A consultative meeting of different stakeholders including local MLAs from Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts and CSOs today decided to suspend the indefinite Tiddim Road bandh for 30 days.
The bandh was imposed by several organisations under the banner of a JAC against the changing of the name of Thangjing to Thangting sub-division. The bandh had begun on Jan 17.
The meeting held at Thangjing Leikai at around 10 am today was attended by representatives of UCM, AMUCO, KSO, Kuki Inpi, Kumbi MLA S Bira, Moirang MLA M Prithviraj, Henglep MLA Manga Vaiphei and prominent administrators of Bishnupur district.
The decision was taken following an agreement reached during the meeting.
Sources said that the central point of the agreement was keeping Thangjing as Thangjing or formation of the sub-division by using the name of one of the nearest villages.
The agitators, meanwhile, warned of resuming their protest by February 22 if the State government fails to convert the agreement into work by taking a cabinet decision within 30 days, the source added.
After the meeting the government delegations went to Torbung to console the irate public. MLA Bira assured that a demarcation between Bishnupur and Churachandpur will be conducted soon so as not to create such untoward incidents in the future again.
