IMPHAL, February 22: The All Manipur Government Aided College Teachers’ Association (AMGACTA) has today demanded the State government to adopt special provisions for welfare of the aided college teachers in the ongoing budget Assembly session.
Speaking to media persons at the Manipur Press Club, the association’s vice president M Somendro claimed that the aided teachers have no provisions for increment in Dearness Allowances, 6th Pay Revision, pension facility and service protection etc unlike aided college teachers in other States.
Somendro further said that the government have neither created the needed teachers’ post nor increase their salaries.
The government has created only 105 posts for teachers, however, as of now only 70 posts remain, he said.
He continued now the fund sanctioned as salary for the 70 posts is being distributed among the teachers whose numbers have increased over 400 over the years as the aided colleges continue to recruit teachers according to their requirements.
He said teachers of the aided colleges namely Biramangol College, Thambal marik College, Liberal College, kakching Khunou College, Mayai Lambi College and Standard College continue to suffer over the past 20 years..
He continued the association has submitted several memorandums to the concern authorities to translate their demands and even the Chief Minister has provided assurance on several occasions but the authorities have failed to translate their demands.
He further appealed to the government to immediately translate their demands into action, and added there will be no improvement in the higher education without solving the aided college teachers’ problems.
