Blast leaves two non-local labourers injured

IMPHAL, February 11: At least two non-local labourers were injured in a powerful explosion triggered by unknown persons in a makeshift camp near the newly constructed bridge at Sawombung Thongkhong along the Imphal-Ukhrul Road in Imphal East today around 7.50 pm.

Reports identified the injured labourers as Sabakul Islam, 35 son of Samul Haq of Kalatopi village in Kamrup District, Assam and Jaheruddin, 35 son of Mundal Mohammmed of the same village.

The bomb splinters hit Sabakul Islam’s left calf leaving him badly injured while Jaheruddin suffered injuries on his shoulder.

Both are undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity for treatment. Their condition are said to be out of danger.

The site of the blast lies around 5 km from Lamlai Police Station. On receiving the news, a team of Imphal East District Police rushed to the spot to take stock of the incident.

It is believed that the bomb might be a hand grenade.

Works for the construction of Sawombung Bridge was entrusted to a special contractor identified as Yaima from Khurai, the reports said.

Nothing could not be ascertained as to which organization carried out the blast and reasons behind it till the time of going to the press.
