CBI DSP and CJM depose in Lungnila Elizabeth killing case

IMPHAL, February 17: Two officials including a Deputy Superintendent of Police of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) deposed before the court of District & Sessions Judge/Manipur West at Uripok Cheirap Court complex today in the killing case of Lungnila Elizabeth.

Elizabeth, daughter of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj and Economics & Statistics minister Francis Ngajokpa, was kidnapped from her school on November 4, 2003 for ransom. Later, she was found murdered.

The CBI official who appeared before the court for ‘’Deposition and Examination in Chief’’ is identified as Almendo Dhar who is the first Investigation Officer (IO) of the case. The other official is Chief Judicial Magistrate/Ukhrul P Pamela.

DSP Almendo Dhar’s deposition was held in connection with the examination of 38 prosecution witnesses of the case, which he had carried out earlier, while CJM Pamela was made to depose as she was the one who took the confessional statement of two of the accused. The ‘’Deposition and Examination in Chief’’ was conducted by senior advocate H Chandrajit who stood for the investigation agency in the case.

Two main accused in the case namely Thokchom Nando alias Nanao and James Kuki alias Letkhosei Haokip who are under judicial custody were also produced before the court.

It may be mentioned that the infamous killing case was transferred to the CBI from Lamphel Police Station.

After handling the case, the investigation agency submitted charge sheet in the court under Section 120 B read with 364 A, IPC on December 12, 2007.

Another two accused namely Ningombam Rome Meitei and Okram Deven alias Arnold/Kokphai/Boy were included in the charge sheet framed.
