CM stresses on concerted efforts from all to guide younger generation

IMPHAL, February 5: Stressing on the need for putting in concerted efforts from the government and private sectors to provide quality education and right guidance to younger generation, Chief Minister O Ibobi maintained that the government is giving utmost emphasis on education sector.

The CM was addressing inauguration function of newly constructed indoor stadium, women hostel and swimming pool of Pravabati College, Mayang Imphal in Imphal West today.

The construction was done under the funding of University Grant Commission (UGC).

Speaking as chief guest, CM Ibobi asserted that the government and private sectors should shoulder equal responsibility to make youths who are the future of the State as responsible citizens.

Education sector plays a vital role in developing human resources in the State, he said.

Stating that the government is committed to achieving 100 percent literacy rate in the State, the CM said that cooperation from private sectors and parents is needed to meet the target.

He assured that the government will look into the demand made by the college for regular grant-in-aid.

During the function, CM Ibobi released a souvenir.

Education minister M Okendro who was the guest of honour appealed to teachers to extend full support to the government to make the State self-reliant in education sector.

Okendro who is also the government’s spokesperson noted the role of teachers in giving quality education to students.

He asserted that some educational institutions of the State are at par with competent institutions in other States.

The minister informed that the government has sent a proposal to the UGC to grant assistance for construction of more academic and administrative blocks in the State which lacks resources.

Presiding over the inaugural function, Works minister Dr Kh Ratankumar emphasized the need for availing more academic facilities in the villages.

Attending the occasion, principal of Pravabati College Th Chaoba Singh informed that the indoor stadium of the college was constructed under 11th Plan of UGC at an estimated cost of Rs 70 lakh, women hostel at Rs 40 lakh and swimming pool at around Rs 1 crore.

He also informed that fund of the construction was sanctioned in 2011.
