Family of rape victim yearning for justice

IMPHAL, February 9: The family of a 7-year-old rape victim has lamented the indifferent attitude shown towards their plight by the authority concerned.

The family has appealed to the competent authority to intervene into the matter to bring justice to the case.

Speaking to media persons at the Manipur Press Club today, the victim’s family said that the incident occurred on October 27, 2015 around 4pm.

The victim was reportedly studying in class-II standard and was tutored by the accused, Waikhom Bisan, 19, years, son of W Yaima of Bishnunaha Awang Leikai, Pukhri Achouba Mapal.

When the incident came to light, the family reportedly approached every relevant authority including the police, Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and civil bodies supported by medical evidence.

Despite the desperate attempt of the family to bring justice to the case, the accused remains reportedly scot-free on the ground of being a minor after a brief detention at the Juvenile Home.

The victim’s family however denied that the accused was a minor.

To add to the woes of the victim’s family, the minor girl who was traumatised by the incident is informed to have been spending sleepless night.

The family revealed that no counselling had been given to the victim till date.

With the accused remaining free, the victim’s parents who reportedly are daily wage earners expressed their apprehension to leave the child alone at home even as they are trying to earn their livelihood.
