ICHAM assists quake affected nine families

IMPHAL, February 7: In a goodwill gesture, Information Centre for Hill Area Manipur (ICHAM) led by its president N Rajendro today handed over monetary assistance to nine families whose houses were partially destroyed in the massive earthquake that shocked the State on January 4 last.

Rajendro handed an amount of Rs 3000 along with 500 numbers of bricks to each of the families in a function held at Lainingthou Puthiba Sanglen, Yumnem Khounou in Imphal East.

The function jointly organised by Students’ Club and Gold Star Club Yumnam Khunou was attended by president of Lainingthou Puthiba Seva Committee H Kerani as president and N Rajendro as chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajendro said that the financial assistance to the families was distributed as a token of love.

He lamented that assistance from the concerned authorities has not given to the families affected by the devastated earthquake despite passing one month.

The State government should not wait for assistance from the Centre to the victims affected by the natural calamity, he said.

Rajendro appealed to the government to arrange alternative means for the affected people.

Haobijam Ibocha who is one of the affected victims told media persons that many government officials visited the affected areas and took photos but assistance to mitigate the loss incurred in the earthquake is yet to be given.
