JAC laments change of bridge construction site

IMPHAL, February 2: The Joint Action Committee formed in connection with the New Bridge at the Nungei Makha Leikai expressed dissent against the attempt to shift the site of the upcoming bridge to another site.

The convenor Aslam Khan and co-convenor Anwar Hussain of the JAC called a press conference today in this connection.

Aslam said “A public meeting participated by 142 people at Nungei Makha Leikai Ningthibi Khong was chaired by Mv Abdus Salam, Zila Parishad member, Thoubal today to discuss about the new bridge to connect Nungei Makha Leikai with Chongtham Kona.”

He continued “The new site for the bridge is not feasible.” The site for the bridge was earlier earmarked at Nungei Mayai Leikai, he said.

The department had even sent the experts to do the soil testing four months back, he said.

“The recent proposal for a new bridge within one km of earlier marked site has created commotions among the public. Hence the public meeting was convened today.”

The public resolved to impress upon the authorities not to shift the proposed site of the bridge from the one that was consented by all parties before, he said.

He said, the resolutions of the public meeting were also submitted to the Agriculture and Fishery minister, Wabgai MLA, Wangoi MLA, Zila Parishad of Turel Ahanbi Atoukhong, Chief Engineer of PWD, Deputy Commissioner of Thoubal and PS Lilong today itself.
