JD(U) Secretary General quits party citing local interest

IMPHAL, February 20: The Secretary General of JD(U) Lien Gangte quite from the post after tenderING resignation letter to the President M Tombi on February 19, 2016.

In a simple farewell proceed at Cafemax Restaurant New Checkon this evening, Lien Gangte told the media that the decision was prompted by his workers and people who want him to look after various under-developed sections along 57-Henglep constituency.

He further said that the Henglep area development committee has proposed to leave the JD(U) in the belief that this was in the best interest of the defelopment of Henglep.

As the committee has chosen him to shoulder the responsibility of building confidence of his people he has decided to confine his activities to the constituency, he said.

He said that in CCpur there are myriad issues and unwanted incidents have occurred on account of unworthy leaders representing the constituency in the Assembly.

If the elected leaders work and thinks for the people the tensions we are witnessing amongst various communities in Manipur may not have happened, he said.

He also said all of Henglep is now in very bad condition in matters of Health Care, Education and more.

Lien further said that he has decided to leave the JD(U) in the interest his people. If he continues to stay in the party, his 30 years political career is unlikely to fructify.

He said he will leave it to the wisdom of his constituency as to which political party he should join in the future.

Member of the Development Committee Mangboi Gangte said in the Henglep constituency people faced numerous grievances because of neglect by the sitting Congress MLA from the constituency. This is why the development committee decided to work to replace him with a true leader for the sake of Henglep’s future.

He said the development committee constitutes of various village and public leaders and will immediately begin planning for the 2017 general election.
