IMPHAL, February 5: The Maphou Kuki Primary Health Centre will be made 24×7 with delivery facilities from tomorrow, announced Manipur State Health director O Ibomcha today during a field visit at the PHC.

During the visit, the director inspected the quarters and the surrounding areas of the PHC.

Speaking on the sideline of the visit, the director said although the Thoubal side is densely populated, it still lacks proper delivery facilities, which is creating many inconveniences for the public.

However, once the PHC with four doctors and five nurses is made 24×7 with proper delivery facilities, it will bring some respite to the people, he observed.

He said the PHC will cover an area with a total population of 21000 people and 10 sub-centres.

Speaking of the inspection visit, he said his team has found proper staff and facilities in the PHC with just the repairing of the labour room yet to be completed.

On the issue of the recent Lilong epidemic, he said it is suspected that it had spread from drainage water.

He said medical reports have identified that the water in the hand pump was contaminated with the drainage water which is surprising.

Water from the drainage might have leaked into the feed of the water pump during the recent earthquake contaminating the water of the hand pump, he added.

He said the PHED has been advised to seal the hand pumps in the affected areas and to provide clean drinking water to the people, he added.

The director also spoke on the issue of the Zika virus which is carried by mosquitoes, and said the directorate will like to spread some awareness on the issue.

He said it doesn’t kill, but affects new born babies.

It is dangerous as it will affect the future generation, he said.

He said pregnant women are also advised against visiting the Cambia Island, South America and Central America.
