Minor rape victim succumbs, JAC submits memo

IMPHAL, February 28: The six and half years old girl who was admitted to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in critical condition after being raped and caused damage to her private part by the rapist in a resting shed at Chinikon under Bishnupur Police Station on February 15 succumbed this early morning around 4.

The deceased girl, is a child belonging to Noney Part IV Peaceland, Tamenglong district.

She was staying at her aunt’s house at Chinikon after her father died.

The victim had gone out of her residence on the day to buy vegetables but failed to return till late night following which a manhunt was launched.

Later, she was found injured after being raped.

She was rushed to Bishnupur District Hospital for treatment and later shifted to RIMS after her condition got worsened.

A case was registered in Women Police Station/Bishnupur in connection with the incident.

The dead body has been deposited at RIMS morgue for post mortem examination.

According to the Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed against the incident, the accused rapist is 18 years old not 14 years as claimed so.

The JAC demanded the rapist be produced before the court for trial or delivered justice according to the customary law instead of keeping in observation home by the police.

The JAC pledged to not accept the dead body till the demand is fulfilled.

A silent rally was taken out from RIMS morgue up to the Chief Minister’s bungalow and submitted a memorandum to the CM urging to fulfil the demand at the earliest.
