KANGPOKPI, February 23: The Naga People’s Organization (NPO) in a statement has come out strongly against the prolong silence of the Manipur government over the alleged assault of NSF by State commandos on February 14 in Imphal.

With the seven-day deadline of the NSF already expired and proposed bandh on Manipur vehicles set to be imposed from February 24 morning, the NPO has expressed that, the utter negligence and silence of the State Government over the matter is highly condemnable.

It also noted that, the involvement of law enforcers in such incident with communal lines and provocative nature is highly unacceptable and threat to public harmony.

We cannot continue to sit and watch over such incidents and State government failure to tackle such issues will only trigger more problems over the already communally inflicted state of Manipur, it said.

The attitude of the government to refuse even appointment of the NSF team after the incident and prolong silence over the memorandum manifests the endorsement of the Manipur police commando’s action against the NSF, it added.

The NPO demanded that, action should be initiated against those responsible police commandos involved in the incident.

Meanwhile, with the NSF all set to impose its Bandh over ‘Meiteis/Manipuri’ vehicles after the expiry of seven days deadline memorandum to CM of Manipur, the NPO has also appealed to the NSF to review the said decision on general public interest.

Advising that, as the incident is related to State Government issues, it said the focus of the agitation should not harm the public who are at the receiving end due to Government’s apathy over the incident.

It also added that, the innocent public cannot be held responsible for blunders committed by the trigger happy, communal and provocative Manipur police commandos, who are in the records for fake encounters, killing innocent civilians, extortions, harassing and assaulting the public and many other unlawful activities in Manipur.

Therefore, the NPO while appealing for promoting of communal harmony and peaceful co-existence among different communities, it has appealed to the NSF to review its decision for larger interest of the innocent public.
