IMPHAL, February 13: The sit in demonstration staged by different communities of Khousabung area against the State cabinet decision to rename Thangting subdivision as Kangvai subdivision has continued for the third day today.

The sit in demonstration began from Friday endorsing the demand of the Khousabung Sub-division Demand Committee (KSDDC) to review the cabinet decision to rename Thangting Subdivision as Kangvai subdivision.

Intensifying its protest, communities from different villages in and around Khousabung area tonight held a candle-light vigil at the Khousabung Village market shed for the second consecutive night besides the sit in demonstration.

According to the protestors, the cabinet decision is politically motivated and one-sided.

They further demand the government to review the decision at the earliest.

KSDDC secretary S Gouneu while reiterating that the decision is a total disregard of the public interest, warned to launch intense forms of agitation in collaboration with like minded civil society organisations if the demand is not met at the earliest.

He further opined the KSDDC will oppose the decision at any cost and until justice is done.

He said while Khousabung is located at the centre of the new SDO/BDO circle which covers 125 odd villages of Churachandpur district, Kangvai, which the State cabinet so favours lies in the northern most fringe of the new SDO/BDO circle.

This is injustice, he claimed. The protestors displayed banners which says “Khousabung the peoples’ sub-division”, “We want justice, we demands Khousabung subdivision.”
