IMPHAL, February 12: The Department of Political Science, Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Regional Campus, Manipur has started a two-day National Seminar on India’s Act East Policy: Problems and Prospects for North East India under the sponsorship of Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi today at Amity Hall, Adimjati Complex, Chingmeirong.
In the inaugural function, MP Dr T. Meinya; Dr. Joseph Kuba, Regional Director of IGNOU Regional Centre, Arunachal Pradesh and Prof K. Ibo Singh, Department of Political Science, Manipur University attended as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
Dr T Meinya in his speech said that under the new model development, India’s Act East Policy needs to look and incorporate the north eastern States.
Dr. Joseph Kuba mentioned about the aggressive Chinese foreign economy policy and efforts to gain sole economic power in the Asia Pacific region.
Professor Ibo cited about the improvement in connectivity, decline in insurgency and increase in the volume of trade and commerce under the Act East Policy.
Co-ordinator and keynote speaker of the seminar, Dr. N. Surjitkumar highlighted the problems and prospects of north east India with the introduction of the Act East Policy of India.
First technical session of the chairman was chaired by Prof. K. Ibo Singh; Dr. Joseph Kuba; Dr. N. Somorendro Singh of Manipur College; Dr. Homen Thangjam of M.B. College and Ramananda Wangkheirakpam of Indigenous Perspective as resource persons while Dr. Malem Ningthouja of IIAS, Shimla; Hungyo Masaileng of Don Bosco College, Maram and Aribam Joy Sharma of Indigenous Perspective were the resource persons in the second session.
